honestly I don't know
I feel like I'm going insane when I try and explain how these bulbs make me feel uncomfortable and I get blank stares back
now I just say
>it's too bright
so I can get the disregard quicker and move on with the conversation

I can't help but explain it in vague terms
>makes everything look ugly
>hurts my eyes/head sometimes
>are too bright in the middle and not strong enough to light up streets, leading to "light blindness" which makes it harder to see at night
and some guy is always there to say UH WELL ACSHUALLY IT'S A GREAT TECHNOLOGY AND IT SAVES ENERGY AND etc etc etc...

I'm over it
fact is I don't like led bulbs at all and up until recently when the people in my town changed all the LED bulbs on all the street lamps AGAIN for the second time in two years, suddenly birds stopped singing in the middle of the night
crazy that

I got ahead of myself there
meant to say
>the birds had been singing all night, because the LEDs they used were too bright, they made it look like the sun was rising all night
>now they've changed to a bulb that doesn't light up ANYTHING, suddenly the birds stopped singing in the middle of the night

which was fucking weird, it's 1am and up on the hill you can hear songbirds doing their dawn song, that's fucked

these newer LED bulbs don't work as well as what we had before either
they break all the time, so even if they're more energy efficient, which is dubious at best, they cost more to repair and maintain and need replacing every couple of years anyway
where I am they just replaced them all with these tiny rectangle battery-pack powered bulbs and now it's too far in the other direction
it's still terrible LED light, but now we can't see shit

why can't we just go back to what we had before?
those bulbs lasted years and nobody complained about things being too orange, it was fine for night vision

who is making these fucking decisions man?!

I had no clue about this myself until I randomly stumbled upon phone reviewer measuring pwm dimming frequency on OLED phones for health reasons

Are filament LEDs ok? I just found out they're pretty similar in how they work to traditional incandescent bulbs. They flicker too (at 60hz just like incandescents) but they have minimum electronics vs whatever LEDs are called now, I think they're called COB type, but they have a lot of electronics in them. Filaments just have a rectifying diode

makes the light areas lighter but it makes the dark areas way darker
notice how the light is picked up and reflected by the leaves on the ground and the luminescent tones of it bouncing off the asphalt

yeah I know but like in a more meat and potatoes way what advisory board made the decision to kill the free market and mandatorily force this shit on everybody everywhere all at once?
who in my local government said "hey we should replace all the lightbulbs"?
what council of men in pointy hats specifically decided that instead of allowing all bulbs to be available at competitive prices for the consumer to make the best informed decision, the way it was with filament and energy saving bulbs for decades, being sold side by side, they would dictate that all bulbs sold in every shop everywhere must ONLY be LEDs now?

I used to use both energy saving bulbs and filament for different rooms and now I have to buy energy saving bulbs online at exorbitant prices because damn I guess it's too much to ask for a variety of bulbs to be sold in fucking hardware stores

who made that call?
fuck those guys
just want a bulb in my bedroom that doesn't keep me awake at night, why is that a bad thing

I don't get what was depressing about it
you think people in the olden times making torches out of sticks and fire complained about the colour of the fire?

some older people get nostalgic about the first generation sodium bulbs that were like a blue tone of white, you can see those in movies like The Warriors, so I get that colour is a matter of taste
the way I see it, humans had adapted to orange glow at night because that's how they navigated by night for generations, so orange felt natural to me

it's on the agenda
I just wish I could get a selection of bulbs at homebase or b&q or something
I'd probably still buy LED bulbs for other uses like in the hallway closet, places where I need them
it's the fact it's being forced so blatantly, seriously makes me want to not use them at all
let me, the consumer, make that choice
it's me who is paying for the electric
fuck off, you know?

this stuff got forced on the market so suddenly that the bulbs I was getting at my local Premier shop, the real cheap ones, they didn't even change their packaging until six months later
you'd think you were getting a normal bulb, sike nigger, it's LED

Dubai get to buy special bulbs with like 4+ filaments that never break because they're outside the bulb cartel's designed obsolescence
same shit with LED bulbs, one the one hand they say LED barely uses up any eleccy and can basically last forever, and on the other hand I'm replacing those fuckers every 3-4 months

exactly
if I'm the one paying for my useage, which is more expensive than not these days, and I want to buy and use a more expensive bulb that potentially uses more energy, am I not already paying for that with my own electricity bill?
if I wanted to save money I could use a money saving bulb, and sometimes even did, I kinda loved those twisty bulbs, but am I not already kind of giving money to use as much electricity as I desire, even if it's more expensive because of so-and-so green party bullshit?

see it reeks of nanny state micromanagement of peoples daily lives to me, which is almost as annoying as the terrible quality light

There are territorial calls too so others don't come and move in on their turf. They also announce that they're single too so some of it is social. There is more to it than this but you can Google it and research it too.

Anyhow, I too had this happen to me this year and though I live in a rural location and there is no real light out here except in the distance from a local town, the Robyn's were singing like crazy and waking me up. Anyhow I read up on it. At least for me, there was no light being an issue for them. But I can totally see this being a thing in a town or city.

Those new pickup trucks are the worst. Making a left turn in an intersection I was blinded by an F-150 with its Close Encounters of the Third Kind headlights, politely flashed high beams to let him know I was blinded, so he turned on his and drove right up to the front of my car and kept them on while I flipped him off and called him a faggot. I'm not saying everyone who drives a truck are insecure faggots, but many are.

blue light and flicker rate are definitely an evil psyop, look up what Jack Kruse says in interviews about Microsoft/Apple's decision to use blue light

personally i think the flicker rates on screens can be fucked with to hypnotize/lobotomize people and this accounts for part of the "endless scroll" effect of social media where you'll pick up your phone to do one thing and then wake up 30-90 minutes later watching short-form video content like FB/youtube shorts

I'd be willing to accept that because it's reasonable
probably might have been more or less, I'm waiting to see how these new much less bright LEDs that they just installed affect them?
I don't remember the night being such a social event even if you did catch the occasional twitter, so if I'm around there at the same time now I'm gonna stop and listen
it's really hard for me to figure out if I'm just noticing it for the first time then or if I genuinely never used to hear it as often as I did when we had that "glow" going on
sometimes from my bedroom window it'd look like dawn had arrived and I'd go outside and it'd still be pitch black

to their credit those bulbs were TOO bright and they definitely needed a downgrade but the fact they needed a downgrade at all kind of reinforces my point about not changing them to begin with
it's not like our old sodium light street lamps were broken before they fixed them
