>You can’t breed out the genetics of man’s best friend in a single lifetime
If you take a large breed dog and just turn it into a meat farm, that isn't breeding. You have to deliberately select for meat on a dog for breeding to get shit to happen, and I highly doubt the bugs were doing that. So realistically zero genetic changes were happening to the dogs in SK, outside of standard inbreeding weird shit that comes with farming. And if they were actually breeding for meat, guaranteed they also ensured they retained friendliness just for ease of farming. You could definitely rescue most of them. The hard ones are ones that are tortured. THAT takes a fuckton of TLC to reverse.
The russoids were working on domesticating foxes for a while there. It was neat to see how quick (it still took several generations) it was to select for friendliness, and the side effects that came from it (they went from orange to black fur).
