we tend to get too used to the standards in our own countries where there aren't packs of feral dogs everywhere. every dog you meet is pretty much sure to be vaccinated or have had zero chance of contracting rabies in teh first place. in most places you have to stay the fuck away from all dogs unless you are staying with a good family. otherwise its impossible to even find out who owns the animal (if anyone) so you can ask about if its had the shots and/or monitor it for a couple weeks to see if it dies.

if it doesn't, you're not going to get rabies.

Rabies is scary as hell. Even up here in Canada, if I see a wandering dog, or a cat, I stay the hell away from it. Better safe than sorry.

Anyway if you ever get bit/scratched by a wild animal and for some reason can't take the vax immediately take at least 15 g of Vit C (1g every hour) and magnesium chloride. It takes a while before the virus travels up to your nervous system so you have to get your system to destroy it before then.

once it starts traveling you're already dead. what it does so is sit dormant for anything up to several years. if you get the vaccines during that dormancy period your chances are very good to not get it. off course, the one in 10 million case might happen when you get the vaccines but it waits 10 years until your immunity titre is low again. but such is life.

best thing is, if think you've been exposed, is to catch the animal and call the pest control guys. they'll kill it and send the brain off for testing. you'll know within a week ifyou need the shots or not.
