No, but threatening a ally right next to you is a good way to getting that said ally to hate you, it's just a retarded thing to do

It was all an elaborate ruse, smoke and mirrors. I think he said it to ruffle their feathers and rile them up, wake them up to the fact they can't actually defend anything. If we secure Canada, Greenland, and Mexico we'll get 5 extra guys at the beginning of every turn.

Under Trump? No. But in the long term, if/when resources get scarce, annexation by the US is an inevitability. The moment it stops being convenient for us to be independent, we will cease to be. Some papers will be shuffled about, perhaps a token show of resistance will be crushed, and then poof, we're a bunch of new states divided in whichever way is most convenient to the party in power at the time, or we end up like Puerto Rico and can't vote at all

No, which makes it all the more baffling why you'd willingly ruin your relationships with your neighbours and embarrass yourself on the world stage by claiming you're going to make that happen.

I've always been Never Trump, but I also never took these threats particularly serious.
The Canada thing was because he hated Trudeau and wanted to fuck with him. The net result was he pushed the election into the hands of the left when it could have gone to the right had he kept his mouth shut.
But that might have been the plan too - leftist leaders in Canada are much easier to work to American interests than conservative ones.
The goal with Greenland is to scare the Euros into increasing the non-American NATO presence there, decreasing our need to be involved. It's important to our geopolitical interests but the US shouldn't have to carry the costs of all this shit.
