In the real world, you're allowed to look up info at your job. Nobody expects you to know every little thing about everything.

Granted, you shouldn't have to look up the basics or the fundamentals.

But if you're already intelligent and want to bounce ideas off of something or learn more nuance to a topic, an AI LLM is the best thing to use.

I've learned lots of new skills and information from using AI. My brain didn't shut off to nigger tier potato IQ levels. I was engaged and reading its responses to me and asking it questions along the way.

One English professor required that we buy a specific dictionary from the school book store - needed to be the exact brand and edition. He then based 10% of your grade on it, you had to bring it to class and show your receipt.

We never used this book again. It's a fucking dictionary and cost me like $250.

Then they come out with a new fucking edition of every basic text book every semester, they just re-arrange the chapters so if you try selling your book back, its worth nothing now.

so... just give them more tests and fewer projects/essays? and require them to present and answer questions on any research project, having that be a major part of the grade. AI is really helpful for researching shit, but you do have to fact check it. the loop of write prompt -> evaluate response (potentially /w external references) -> update prompt -> repeat should actually help retain information since it is interactive. used properly, AI should be a great teaching aid. just assignments have to be modified so that you're not grading AI-generated work, which is pointless for everyone involved.

Teaching seems like it's become a dumping ground for people that were told they needed a degree, half-assed their way through completion, couldn't find anything in their field of study due to being an underwhelming fit so they went back to study, got a post-graduate teaching degree and now teach poorly.
