The only similarity I see between him and the Italians is that what he did is similar to what the Italian Mafia did. But it itself was full of Jews, so it didn't matter if it was Iberian or Italian at the end of the day.

Cabot was the first of that era to North America working for Englands Henry 7th, and he planned out English colonisation, even kidnapped some native Indians to gift to Henry 7th in London in the late 1400s. Unfortunately Henry's son was an abject failure and colonisation was delayed until 1607. We have statues and shopping centres named after him yet America doesn't even recognise his work.
