Exposing the entire northern flank to a rapid German advance. The French weren't helped by the fact that the British refused to commit sufficient forces and instead turned the whole war into an exercise to practice retreating and fucking up. ( The Brits got pretty good at both by the end. Even by 1944 they were had refined their art of fuck ups to include airborne divisions )
