If they really existed, would they even be better than conventional firearms? In Star Wars, the Tuskens used Cycler rifles which were altogether with any other projectile weapon called slugthrowers.

>40 watts
This bugged me fiercely as a kid. I knew there were light bulbs with 40 watts of power and even if I didn't grasp the physics I instinctively knew the amount power that makes a lamp barely burn your hand makes a shitty weapon.

Maybe in the future the rifle is so common that you’d sound out of place not dropping the Mega when specifying the watt range, and the Terminator didn’t get that.

Skynet designed and made them in 2008 and it caused them problems because it was the only small arm worth using against machines. That's obviously displayed in T2.

Yup. There's a fixed number of guns in circulation meaning the cost to buy one is astronomical. It's only illegal if you're poor.

Grappling with chicks isn't as fun as you might think, the type of chicks that end up in grappling sports have insane hubris and if you make them face the reality you're the bad guy who takes things too rough. It isn't unusual that guys never take the kiddie gloves off when sparring with women, so they end up with false sense of security which in my view is extremely dangerous, even more dangerous than if they never trained at all. They might think "yeah no worries I can take him" instead of just running the fuck away and then get raped in every hole just because nobody ever gave them a reality check.

Ackshually that is explained, apparently star wars hyperdrive works a bit like 40k warp drive, just with no tentacles bursting out of your eyes if power flickers for a second. Millennium Falcon has such state of the art systems it plotted the shortest route through the roiling unstable hyperspace or whatever it's called in star wars.

He says '40 watt range.' You don't know what component that refers to. It could be some sort of capacitor that funnels energy to a finer point or something, not necessarily how much energy the rifle uses

7.62×51mm NATO rounds have about 4000 joules, so 40 watts seems quite low. However you don't need 4000 joules to kill, an arrow can kill with just 60 joules of energy, perhaps the plasma bolt functions differently from a bullet.

Also if making up sci fi things, if it was phased and focused it would probably do way more damage than linkrel. It would basically be instantly vaporizing and turning to plasma whatever its pointed at. Also anyone looking at it would be instantly blinded.
