>>508755152 (OP)>>508755304If government wants to do something to make housing more affordable there are two levers they can pull:
1. Increase supply of houses (build more)
2. Decrease demand by controlling immigration, both legal and illegal.
Left leaning governments are in theory on board with # 1, but they undermine it by refusing to do # 2. Building-supply can never keep up with population growth that is increasing too-rapidly due to immigration.
Mainstream-Right leaning parties are reluctant to do either #1 or #2, placing their faith in big business (who coincidentally donate to their political parties) to increase supply, while doing nothing about demand.
^These are the two approaches Western countries have had from government for the last several decades, and the results are disastrous for most people.
Both sides of politics in government are typically staffed by people who own homes and whom want their property values to increase, a conflict of interest that is rarely acknowledged.
Rent controls are retarded and fail to help the working and middle classes every time they're tried. Over 100 years of evidence from around the world demonstrates this
>>508757607 The experiment has been tried again and again with the same results.
