Why is there such a big difference between what jesus preached and what old testament tales would say. Old books talk of a spiteful angry God that would hold thousand year grudges, punish entire civilizations for the actions of one guy, and create the most strict brutal covenants.

Meanwhile new testament talks of a loving God that will forgive anything and has infinite mercy and gives second chances, and is everyone's God rather than just one single super special chosen desert tribe
