Ideally you tax at increasing rates after each bracket. The first 50-75k any American makes is tax free. After that every dollar you make is taxed 40%. Once you're making over a million dollars a year you're taxed 90% on every dollar after that point. Since the majority of wealth owned and held by billionaires is in stocks/the companies they own/etc. there will still be rich people and poor people, just less shafting of ordinary hardworking Americans and putting more of the onus to pay on those with more money than you could ever reasonably spend in a lifetime.
