It's happening in more media industries than just games but games is where it's most egregious and murky legally as to what companies can take away from you after you purchase.

>Digital goods only means video games

Setting aside that playing games of any kind is for all ages, setting aside that the troons only got as far as they did because mongs like you don't understand how the culture war works and setting aside the ridiculous notion that your dumb ass is somehow the benchmark for what is an acceptable pass time, the fact that you do not understand that digital goods includes music, movies, books and any piece of software (including professional) should tell anyone here you're not worth listening to.

its one thing to buy a license for a set time or like subscribe to nigflix for a few months
you know what you get and how long you get it but here its nebulous at best and malevolent in some cases like destiny or overwatch, people who paid full price for the games and/ or dlcs got assfucked as the devs removed the content or put a 2 on the logo and made you original purchase irrelevant
you buy an online game today, you have 0 clue whether you will be able to play it next week or not and that really should be illegal
thats the main premise of the initiative but I hope it goes beyond that and its a much needed step against the "you own nothing" shit

They should also add a clause where if I own a commercialized domestic OTC digital good, then I also have the right to inspect proprietary software to whichever degree I find satisfactory. Manufacturers are not allow to produce a digital good which cannot be inspected or is rendered unusable through any process of doing so

Any physical device which I purchase I may inspect how I wish, why are digital goods any different.

>It should be illegal to sell software which is illegal to inspect, reason being is the user can't make an informed decision on the product they are purchasing if they have no reasonable route or method of understanding it's function to draw a conclusion

Read the FAQ. The law they want to pass will be only relevant to software for which support has ended. Basically the companies will be required to provide the customers with DRM-free EOL builds that work offline/on self-hosted servers, but only AFTER the support has been dropped.

Because things start with video games. Video games are used as an experiment for things like car ownership.

This might sound like a black mirror episode, but we're going into this direction:
If at some point the toyota service stops, you can no longer lock your toyota, or whatever car brand you own.

Internet of Things, imagine your frigde or your trash can. Ubisoft is the owner.
Ubisoft decides you need a trashcan with a TPM 4 chip or whatever, so they shut down the internet service, and you cannot open your trash can anymore, effectively taking away your ability to throw away trash.

shit like that

Battlefield was but they ruined it.

Hell Let Loose is imo the best thing out there right now, a good community and fun game.

Fortnight is huge for zoomers and battle royale.

Elden ring brought dark souls to the masses.

Sucks that gaming really really does suck now, the world is waiting for an actual metaverse game, which some games come close to, but don’t give us completely. Once we get that it’s over for everyone else.
