Theres nothing wrong with socialism, intervention or even price ceilings on certain things. Prices ration a scarce resource so that the richest willing to pay have access to it first. By imposing price ceilings, using a lottery to ration and subsidizing the production of the resource, you can ensure most have access to it without creating a shortage. This would work for housing.

So the people who want more Capitalism blame the Socialist programs, and the Socialists blame the Capitalist programs.
