Is life without flesh really life? I do not personally like the idea of the covergence of consciousness with technology. Sure, it would make interstellar travel much easier to achieve, but if we're all just contained to metal boxes without the warmth and grit of humanity, then I don't see the point. We should focus all efforts into spreading Earth's gift as it was provided to us across the galaxy and ensuring our survival until the end of time. It's likely there will be something on Mars, but it's hard to see what. You'd get better mileage from a moon base and asteroid mining than anything you'd want to do at the bottom of a gravity well with shitty atmosphere and lacking in mineral resources.

Sometimes I think about a timeline where Mars had kept its thicker CO2 atmosphere. If it were anywhere in the range of 0.3 - 4 atm, it would be much warmer, could have liquid water on its surface, and humans would only need an oxygen mask to walk outside. The Mars we got will be much more of a challenge, but I think it will ultimately do us good.
