Alcohol is a social lubricant. Enjoying the buzz itself is mostly a mix of associating it with good times and varying physical dependency on it.
Otherwise, it's mostly just numbing you a little.
If you're hanging around by yourself on the computer or doing anything that requires focus, the buzz becomes annoying after two drinks.

As for weed, idk. I enjoyed it for like the first six months, then it was like a switch went off in my brain and it just became completely debilitating for me to have even small amounts.
Avoided it for years.
Now I occasionally take very small amounts of edibles to relax and watch a movie. It's great for getting immersed in a movie. I don't know any other uses for it.
Adults who smoke weed socially act like they're social with it, but they're not, they just can't see themselves. They pass a bowl around a circle and they all gradually get quiet and just sit there without talking much.
