The skyhook concept is one that's worth taking onboard. Daniel Dennett proposed this as a way to understand the difference between myth and viewpoints that are more grounded in reality.

A skyhook is what descends from the heavens to prop up belief systems that are not based in reality. Ideologies that rely on supernatural explanations have this in common.

Conversely, if you've built a scaffold, each piece being part of the support structure that holds your ideas up, it is much more likely to be correct.

Evolution is a good example. Like Gulliver's bonds, there are thousands of 'threads' holding it down. Even if some of them are cut, it doesn't change things because there are many others that affirm this is a correct interpretation of what we see.

If humans need god beliefs to survive and stay sane, we deserve to go mad and die out.

Gods were real. Thunder/Sky God fighting world serpent is a common story in most of the old religions. Be it ours Indra vs Vritra, Thor vs jormungandr, Zeus vs Typhon, Ra vs Apep. Even in south American Gods like Tezcatlipoca (thunder god) fought Quetzalcoatl who is their feathered serpent god and Incan Thunder God Illapa fighting Amaru serpent gives more credibility of Gods being real theory.
