>>508858397In English, there's an expression called a "Pyrrhic victory"โit refers to a victory so costly that it essentially feels like a defeat.
The term comes from King Pyrrhus of Epirus in Greece. In the 3rd century BCE, he won a battle against the Romans but suffered massive losses. After the battle, he said: โIf we are victorious in one more battle like this, we shall be utterly ruined.โ
Itโs about time we added a new term to English: the "Khamenei victory"โa victory in which, right at the start of the war, all military commanders are killed, the commander-in-chief goes underground and never comes back out even after the ceasefire, the countryโs airspace falls entirely under enemy control, key military and nuclear facilities are destroyed, and the leader congratulates the nation on their โvictoryโ from his hidden bunker!
