I wound up with mine just giving him a little bacon every night, so I named him bacon. They aren't expensive unless something happens, I spend about 10 bucks a month on dry food and 20 on wet if I can afford it. My vet is 200 bucks for one appointment a year and it's the most expensive one in the area. You may not feel like a pet guy now but once you experience the friendship it's really worth it.

I have two adult cats that don't go along and another non-official cat that only comes around to eat and pets, it's too much work. I'm affraid one of the cats will fuck them up.
