This Indian commercial for skin whitening cream suggests that Indians desire to become white.

Skin whitening products are popular world wide yet skin darkening products don't exist.

What does this mean?

fair point, suntan oil is meant to look tan and it's not permanent though

Spray tan. Cancer causing tanning beds. “Working on my tan” as a phrase. People are willing to risk death to get the darker skin look. Granted most aren’t trying to be deceptive about it like Rachael Dolezal. You won’t see German descended women saying “I’m Greek/sicilian” so this is my natural wintertime skin colour!”

Yes they do.
White people here in Canada use tanning lotions/tanning salons or actually fly off to some equatorial country in order to get a tan during winter because if you're too pale you look sickly.

That's it though, they're trying to look tan, not like a different race. Spray tans and tans are also not permanent--I believe skin whitening creams may be but I'm not sure.

And in what way is that equivalent?

its call suntan lotion, but skin darkening is a much smaller industry compared to skin whitening. last i checked skin whitening industry was making billions every year in revenue with the primary base being women, but a growing number of men also are starting to use skin whitening products.

White people make up a tiny percentage of the global population.

Every race wants to be white. The only ones upset at us are the ones who can't even come close. So they rage and overcompensate for how great their color is, even when no one is talking about it, a common sign of jealousy.

We need to develop a genome whitening solution. Imagine if we could replace the nucleus in living cells.

I suspect that non-whites want to be white and also want whites to treat them as fellow whites.

In black families, parents often treat their lighter-skinned children better than their darker siblings.
It's pretty interesting but I've been told this is true.

they have much greater buying power though. if there was an interest in skin darkening you'd see more products for it, but its basically a one way street. and its been that way for centuries if not millennia, skin whitening has existed in one form or another in multiple regions across the globe during different time periods.
