I once did some research for a project at university about male vs female birth.
You'd think that you basically have a roughly 50/50% chance on having a son or daughter since the father can either give an X or a Y to the child.
But actually it's something along the lines of 52% male and 48% female babies. Turns out that for various reasons during the first few weeks of development in the womb, female babies have a slightly higher chance of dying off. Combine that with how in certain areas of the world, like India and China, daughters are aborted or left for dead because parents want a son that can take of their future, and presto: millions of girls missing compared to the boys of the same generation.
The only reason why it's more noticable now is because once out of the womb, boys/ young men die a lot more than girls (for example, being a soldier)

The real answer will become apparent soon enough to women and the NPCs. Men are in a "feast or famine" situation socially, sexually, and financially. Being a regular drone working a 9 to 5 is not rewarded anymore. You get a used up roastie that hates your guts for not being chad, and she'll think that she did you a favor for settling for you. Most men are smart enough to know it's a "get rich quick or die trying" environment now. They all want to be influencers, esports players, athletes, or just generally famous. Those are the only occupations that allow average and ugly men upward social mobility. And as you can tell, the success rate for these occupations is all extremely tiny and luck defendant. Most who lose the lottery just give up and live a low maintenance life style til they expire. Society wants men to be grateful cogs, and that won't happen anymore, because all the younger generation men grew up seeing the absolute state of older men, and that's back when they had it better than us now. Men will not perform their traditional gender role for as long as it contiues not being rewarded. Women, governments, and old people can cry about it til they're blue in the face, it won't work. Shaming doesn't work anymore. Sticks don't work anymore. Men are desensitized to negative treatment. It's called the "carrot and stick", not "the stick and even more stick". But. apparently complete societal collapse is preferable to giving average men even the slightest modicum of a carrot.
