I once did some research for a project at university about male vs female birth.
You'd think that you basically have a roughly 50/50% chance on having a son or daughter since the father can either give an X or a Y to the child.

The real answer will become apparent soon enough to women and the NPCs. Men are in a "feast or famine" situation socially, sexually, and financially. Society wants men to be grateful cogs, and that won't happen anymore, because all the younger generation men grew up seeing the absolute state of older men, and that's back when they had it better than us now. Men will not perform their traditional gender role for as long as it contiues not being rewarded. Women, governments, and old people can cry about it til they're blue in the face, it won't work. Shaming doesn't work anymore. Sticks don't work anymore. Men are desensitized to negative treatment. It's called the "carrot and stick", not "the stick and even more stick".
