Not new for the Russians.
They like to use railways for logistics so they have a whole section of their military dedicated to building, maintaining and operating railways.
Where the Americans can airdrop and open a burger king anywhere on the planet inside of 24 hours. The Russians can run a railway anywhere they hold inside of a few days.

This reliance on trains has led to them embracing and continuing to operate armed trains. Which is pretty weird to the west to say the least.
