Mostly weapons systems R&D and testing. They've got a bombing range and a big training ground in the area where Navy and Marines train for landing operations.
They've got a very cool ordinance museum there that's good for half a day looking around, and the nearby beaches are world class, on par with anything in the Caribbean, the nearby beaches are a very popular summer destination for people in southern states like Alabama and Georgia.
My brother has been stationed there for a few years and plans to retire down there. It's also very white, clean and conservative. Pretty solid as far as Florida goes and I've been around that state a fair bit.
Fun fact, they got nearly a foot of snow last winter and the base closed down for about a week and /pol/ schizos were still claiming that air force personnel were gang-stalking them while the base was closed.
