Gen X was the last generation where it was somewhat common. And i think only in the south was that the case. It seems it wasn’t so in other parts of the country. I think I may have had one or two paddling in school. It was actually nothing compared to a real spanking. But in my age, it was fairly common. Every school I went to had corporal punishment. All of my uncles experienced the belt in school, were scolded, and raised strictly - grew up drug dealing with some being junkies. My brothers probably had it worse - my mum would force them to stand and then throw coat hangers at them until they bled several times after the smallest of things. I remember one time she did it and when my brother filled up the bath it was just all red. They are not well mentally now and are in and out of prison.
