Why should this be unreasonable is the real question. Owning two used vehicles is reasonable. Owning a modestly sized home like this should be reasonable, it's not even large using the proportions of the cars for scale. How did shit get fucked up so bad this isn't even within the realm of reality for normal people anymore. Both Canada and the US have essentially infinite land and resources available.

the winner opted for $75k jewbux instead, and someone bought the house on the open market for $100k.

houses are cheap as chips in muttland, because ameripoors are larping brokies. they have glorified caravans made out of cardboard and popsicle sticks:

where I grew up in the 90s that kind of house cost $60k and a factory worker made $40k. Even if Homer was just a labourer he would be able to afford it. But actually for the position he has at the plant he should be living in a way nicer place.

The house in "You only move twice" is more reflective of what he should have been living in if his salary reflected his position

If you want to be a reactor operator you join the US Navy, serve 60 years (I think there's like a large bonus if you can pass the test, like down payment on a nice house).

Then you can find a job at a power plant, Easily make $300k as a senior reactor operator, but you constantly test to keep your job and the position generally ages you like a president.

Cities scale property tax to meet spending not just taking in huge windfall taxes, unless they are in states without income/sale taxes. For example my condo has changed in value by up and down over 100% yet every year my tax bill has been about the same.
If the average housing price in a city is 1M and another similar sized city and climate is 200K the higher value city will have about 1/5 the overall tax rate because they both need about the same funding.

Yep I just paid for my house in full but it doesn't really feel like I own it because I have no idea if I will be able to live here in 10 years since the gov can just decide its worth 1 billion at any time and then charge me 1% of that every year.

Plus any dollar I earn, the gov takes half. I'm actually -1000 every month right now. But that doesn't stop the gov from charging me income tax on the savings I have in the bank, even though the interest rate isn't even enough to cover inflation.

So my house is costing me 1000 a month in fees, and my bank is losing 2500 a year to inflation, but I still have to pay extra taxes on the "profit" I'm making. I have looked up other countries to move to, I have no idea what to do and everything seems fucked.

Houses were seen as a place to live. We had yet moved to the point of capital investments, retirement nest eggs, rental properties, passive income, speculation, tax revenue sources. People saw houses as a good to be used. Today houses are the "fix-all" to society's ills. Scaring people into believeing social security is going bankrupt forced boomers to treat homes as retirement funds. Cities want to tax the hell out of houses because they have built their cities around government services. People fell for the passive income meme and have begun buying houses to try and make their own businesses. Wall Street of course just want's to jack up the prices as much as possible.

assuming he started making 362$ a week in 1989, that's 1000 a week in todays money. assuming everybody in springfield is immortal and never ages we can probably guess his house was probably 60-80k max back then and he's gotten raises and cost of living increases over the last 35 years. he likely brings in over 1500 a week at this point and the house and car has been paid off for a while now.

His cars are old, 1970's vintage. They only cost a few thousand and have long been paid off. More amazing that they family is still using old cars and keeping them running for so long. No car payments basically made it so he didn't have to spend much. Even things like taxes and registration are going to be no more than $50 a year. The insurance companies probably hate him too since they are having to payout for these shitboxes a huge inflated price. Homer was just born at the right time in history to get what he got. If he were like us today he would probably be a renter for life.

Funny but not how that works. Your wife also has to work, that's how people are able to afford anything. It's called "dual income" and it's the new hotness for extracting wealth from the middle class. Ever wonder how people are buying $400,000 homes? Well that's how.

When your parents bought that the land was worth nothing. It was probably in a tertiary satellite suburb with a 1 hour commute to the nearest city center. The city grew and now the land is worth a lot more because there are more people.

How do zoomers not understand this?

You can buy a house RIGHT NOW for $100,000, outside any major city in the US. But you do not have the right to prime real estate for pennies on the dollar. Neither did your parents or grandparents, they commuted.

Housing will remain fucked until there's another domestic low risk asset class for capital to flow into. It's not going to be bonds because bonds got fucked after 08 and they're not getting unfucked without a government default. It's not going to be stocks because boomers pulled the Glass Steagall ladder up behind them. The only way the likes of Vanguard or Black Rock can get better than government bond yield is by playing slum lord, so that's exactly what they'll do. The problem isn't anything in the housing market, it's the government and the boomer entitlements.

Here's my advice: get good at something to the point that employers have a reason to pay you more than 90% of the competition. We live in a highly competitive world. You will not get paid jack shit unless you are highly exceptional in your trade or line of work. Oh yeah, and another thing: Fuck you, you're not entitled to a fucking thing. Im highly capable as a mechanic to the point where I can do it self employed, for an employer, or even start my own business. Either way, I make bank because I'm a fucking badass master tech.

While this is true at an individual level, you cant build a society off 'just be the top 10% :)'. There will simply always be people who are merely unexceptional, and they will be the majority of people. Its not even a matter of different specializations, there are people who dedicated their working lives to the same career as you and tried hard every day and you are still better than them. Understanding what is required to succeed in a broken system is not a fix for the system.

A man who goes to work and does a productive job every day should be able to independantly support a family. The failure of this social instution is a product of a society that supports individual failure, yes. But the answer to this isnt throwing away average men who could carry themselves and their families if that is what is asked of them, but cant quite manage enough grit to support the extra weight of useless trannies and woman politics in HR and foreign incompetents adding to their load.

How's condo life? A friend of mine suggested I downsize into one because I live alone in a five bedroom, 2.5 bath place that I inherited. It was paid off twenty years ago. Dunno if I'd be happy in a condo. Just yesterday I dumped a truckload of firewood behind my detached garage. Do condominium units with fireplaces or woodstoves even exist. I have both. Also, I can park two school busses in my driveway or pass out drunk in my back yard without complaints. Condo living seems pretty rigid. Like there's always someone on the board waiting to tattle on one of the denizens in the conglomerate.

Not always. In some older neighborhoods, ones where sidewalks were only installed later, or in ones where the road was expanded either for traffic or just for on street parking there can a sidewalk right up to the road with nothing between becuase to do other wise would mean having to spend more on emminent domain for each and every property the sidewalk runs past. Usally in those cases the mailbox is pretty much right in the driveway though so you can still kinda pull up to it.

this is the general story of the economy of our lives.

stuff made in china getting cheaper all the time.

then our friendly central bankers need to save us from the evils of deflation, print a fuckton of money

said money is spent on mass importing wellfare queens

now everything not made in china goes up in price, such as housing schooling or healthcare

you can thank your central banker; average inflation is now close to zero percent (well if you leave the housing out, because we needed a little extra money to import rapefugees)

I think it was the sugar episode when he says he found $1 while waiting for the bus and Marge says he could've made $50 by going in to work.

$50 a day much back then? Must've been early to mid 90s.

And Marge was known as a frugal coupon queen.

Even late 90's would turn that 50 into a 300. Divided by 8 hours makes 37,5 dollars an hour.
Which is like 1,5 times as much as the average income here.

In the executor of my family's trust so I will receive the rights to my parents house, property, and other assets and distribute them to my siblings per my parents' wishes. I'm also an engineeraking 130k and own a home so I'm not some leeching loser than couldn't make their own way but a lot of good-for-nothing zoomers will inherit chunky estates of multiple properties and millions of dollars in investments. My younger friend is one of them.

That's the thing everyone is missing, when duties were split, working 8-10 hours didn't matter much. Your stuff was clean, clothes washed, meal prepped etc. So you'd get home and relax. Now you either have to both work (at least you can split chores) or you're single and have to do all that on top of the more brutal schedule. This is all to drive consumption because tired people dont think, they impulse buy for comfort. They also don't revolt against the system. That's why make work jobs exist and no matter how much productivity we gain, your ass is at work 5 days a week for 40 hours. Oh btw remote work is canceled, get your ass to the office. The ruler of this world are ontologically evil, there is no way around it

cause even if that was true which it is not - that 60% of the population is completely unnecessary and expendible. you can go work in the mines. the other 40% of men breed the women and keep society going. that is modern society.

In the early 90s this was not considered a large house. This was pretty squarely lower middle class. In the early 90s a big house was 4500+ sq ft and cost 350k. A million dollar home was unironically a palace 8k sq ft elevators built in secret passage ways and stuff.

I don't get it, 60% of the male population (under 30) is single (and an incel, because nobody really wants to be single).
You then go
>yeah, bu all those 50-year-olds have sex, so your argument is invalid
and somehow think this has any relevance to what we're talking about.

>I'm an automotive mechanic

Boy and we sure are PROUD OF YOU, CHAMP. :D compared to your father that used to clean toilets. Or your brother who's a freelancer electrician. Or your bigger brother who's a plumber without a degree and thus cannot get hired anywhere cause he doesn't have insurance. Bwhahahahaha.

Ahhh you naive filthy rednecks never learn to be humble and honest.
>your college degrees are worthless.
*Eats peanuts over your head with my 440k IBM software engineer degree* you said anything darling? I couldn't hear your little people talk over there, you're so tiny.
By the way if you ruin my Ferrari your company is paying for it/getting sued if you ruin my engine. ;) But I wouldn't put you to fix Ferrari & Lamborghini especially Murcielagos. You can fix a crappy little Toyota, Dacia, your father's tractor etc. ;) I'm not sure if an automotive mechanic is capable of fixing the fridge & washing machine.

By moving to lower density areas. I live in the suburbs of a small city in the south (with a rapidly growing economy) and I bought my house for $250k in 2022. America will never run out of open land that can be developed so there will always be affordable houses somewhere. Canโ€™t say the same thing for Europe since theyโ€™re already using 100% of their land.

Somehow all of the land upon Earth is now owned by private religious organizations and secret societies.
Satan owns all of the land upon the Earth.
You MUST participate in a vile, evil, intentionaly deceitful global economic model in order to obtain a life upon an owned planet.
All land is owned by them.
All land.
And you must worship the golden calf in order to have any.
An entire planet of stiff necked golden calf worshippers.

About 900 2024 shadowstats bux. Shadowstats really is good for net income over time. I've run the figures for my grandparents and aunts / uncles who had government jobs in the 70s and 80s, and they line up pretty much exactly with what people in the same positions make now. Probably less because I'm not calculating bennies, but close enough.
