well in current yearisms it causes anger because its a reminder of our bad past and people believe such things must be killed for us to progress. This includes stuff like the indian from land of lakes. It used be that people who still flew the flags were just weird confederate larpers who could still be cool people outside the larp. But now anyone flying the flag is seen as an enemy of progress by the left.

It's weird because the left went off their rails in their hate-boner for around 2015. Before that, they usually just called it "tacky" and left it at that. Wasn't that long ago the Dukes of Hazzard was the most popular show on TV.
