You need government because you have no culture. In Japan the food culture revolves around eating meat and fish, often raw. They don't need government directives to make them do that, it's their culture. America (and the UK similarly) has had any food culture it had destroyed, and the general population do not understand the cultural importance of food as it pertains to the health and function of a civilisation. They only see food as sensory treats.

This is why when these discussions come up, westerners especially Americans always get into mental gymnastics about calories and portion sizes, rather than seeing the bigger picture; in most of the world people do not eat goyslop every day because it isn't part of their culture. If most of your nutrition comes from meat and fish, you don't have to control calories or portions, you can eat til you are full and you will be slim and healthy.
It's crazy that such an obvious thing needs to be explained but westerners genuinely don't even understand what they are supposed to eat.

Or just encourage people not to drink literal cancer water. When I was a little shittling, my parents gave me milk or chocolate milk as an alternative. At least that has calcium, protein and vitamins versus literal cancer water. Also, snack foods can be EASILY made at home. Bake your own chips (cut potatoes into paper thin wafers, soak them) and use olive oil and season. It's like a cross between a fry and a chip. Far better than the grease chips in a bag. Same with deserts, banana slice with peanut butter, honey and a piece of 80% dark chocolate on top or Greek yogurt with chocolate protein powder, bananas and honey.
