It is a slam dunk case on the merits. The only reason that they'd cut a deal is that the prosecutor's office lacks the trial competence to prosecute him, and lacks the funds to pay competent prosecutors to do their work for them (a very common practice). They ran a serious risk at trial of setting a mass killer free, so they folded.

This is a shortcut for Kohberger; he'd get life no matter what because even if the prosecutors lucked out and a prejudiced jury convicted him regardless whether the prosecution actually made their case, it would get reduced on appeal, but that would take years and millions of dollars. The result is the same either way for him.

Pleas of life no parole severely limits appeals and the inmate usually has to file it all themselves because it's almost impossible to get a lawyer to do that kind of work plus no funds. There is something highly advanced on the planet. Human splinter society, interdimensional technologically sophisticated something or other, aliens, reptilians, I do not know. But there is something here far beyond us, and it is involving itself in our society, mostly using traitors among us who sold us out for trinkets from this thing.

The gangstalkers and the Masons serve whatever it is, hoping for more crumbs. Meeting them is like level one. But as you go higher, you will see more tech, until it is like there is a poltergeist in your home. That stuff is real, though I assume every case is just them and their tech screwing with people.

For some reason that machine decided to kill Kaylee, and I assume frame Kohberger, but the midwit IQ meatsticks who it assigned to do it fucked everything up. I do not know how they got Bryan to go along with going away, but I would bet there is a real interesting story there.
