Sooner or later this year, we will see a ramp up of the Chinese military making final preparations to invade the island country of Taiwan. It is inevitable as this has been the sole focus of the Chinese military for many years.
Is the United States military and its government even capable and competent enough to repel and defend Taiwan from an amphibious invasion by China?
Can you imagine Trump being able to make wise, competent, and logical military decisions during this conflict?

It wouldn't be an invasion persay, probably more like a siege. China will blockade Taiwan and isolate it from the world, open a humanitarian corridor for Taiwanese citizens to leave the island with the promise of a livelihood in China, and continuous missile bombardments from the mainland until Taiwan's capabilities have been spent. When this happens, China can invade Taiwan easily.

except that's not the full story
hong kong was only significant because it wasn't just another part of china, and could avoid chinese red tape. if thatcher had made it clear that hong kong was only unique under british rule there may have been a chance for it. having an international gateway to the world for commerce was immeasurable.
unfortunately china was lacking intelligence, short-sighted, and greedy. it was a largely successful capitalist mecca right on their doorstep so they had to take it. it was 'theirs' after all, and they didn't see why china couldn't do what britain did much better than britain.
the whole of guangdong is as good as finished as far as being an international hub goes. china can make any number of ports at any location on the chinese coast but none will be to what hong kong was.

It's true that China and Russia both want Weimerica gone, but are you aware of how US and Russia allied to destroy Germany in WW2, then immediately became mortal enemies?
China and Russia are trying to make sure they both still have a country after weimerica is defeated because they want to be the ones in power.

China isn't going to fullsend just to help Russia or Iran, because if they don't want to piss off the US and have their entire country destroyed.

the threat of invading taiwan is more valuable than taiwan.
it's what they learned from hong kong. as soon as the ccp started throwing their weight around hong kong lost all utility as a gateway for international trade.
for a long time china has been restrictive on international investment, and hong kong provided a loophole.
since the loophole was closed, as would be with a taiwan invasion, the red tape of china becomes prohibitive.

it will be good enough for infantry and possibly light vehicles like mopeds and scooters

What? They went past the 38th parallel before being pushed back.
The war stall mated at the 38th because the UN forces were never built up for a major push. It was a series of pushes by chinese led forces making small gains before being pushed back to the original starting lines.
UN Forces never committed enough ground soldiers and equipment for an offensive. While US air power ensured that logistically Chinese and North Korean forces could never build up enough forces to make push.
Also the big part you missed:
It was land based logistics train. Much easier to defend than a naval route.

I wouldn't be surprised if china gets kinmen island for free (the small cost of putting the world on high alert to chinese ambitions and other international condemnation). Anything more than that and there's going to be pretty costly backlash.
The Taiwan straight is 81 miles long at its shortest point with terrible swells and prone to storms and monsoons like 6-9 months out of the year, only like 10% of the coastline supports a potential landing area, and those are only accessible at high tide otherwise the attackers would be crossing mudflats 3 miles long.
Taiwan would know when and where China was attempting a landing days to months ahead of time.
80% of Taiwans A2/AD missile systems are road mobile, meaning they would be incredibly survivable to Chinese preparatory fires. And since the Chinese navy doesn’t possess a missile defense system like aegis, once the Chinese amphibious ships are in the water they would be getting destroyed over the course of the 8 hour crossing.

If it's anything like Ukraine and Iran, yes. He'll make some performative strikes and then concede Taiwan to its own fate ensuring the USA doesn't get excessively damaged while the empire inevitably crumbles.

Maybe Japan will rush in and save them? I don't know, I think if I were Japanese I'd be aligning myself with China right now.

The losses at Chosin Reservoir had been painfully high for U.S. troops. The estimated 18,000 casualties included about 2,500 killed in action, 5,000 wounded and almost 8,000 who suffered from frostbite.

But there were troops worse off still—the Chinese. “Some of the Chinese prisoners that we got, they were happy to be with us,” remembers Whited. “I just absolutely felt sorry for them. Their feet were nothing but ice.”

“They had much lower morale than we did,” White says he concluded at the time. Hastily mobilized from Manchuria for deployment in Korea, they lacked any winter clothing or sufficient food. With similarly faulty information, Chinese military leadership made crucial mistakes that cost troops’ lives and gave U.S. forces time to retreat. Some 30,000 Chinese soldiers perished from cold alone, along with about 20,000 combat casualties.

Probably not. The CCP has played the long game and there aren't many reasons for them to change that tactic. They'll eventually beat Taiwan down in the global trade market as the chipmaking and such improves in mainland, this is an inevitability at this point. Then it's just a matter of doing some meddling in internal politics of Taiwan.
I guess there's some chance of Xi going schizo like the monke, but the Chinks probably have more internal resistance for those sort of power moves.

They need 1 or 2 more carriers fully populated with warplanes, trained crews and weapons. They aren't far off from having this, but they're not there yet, so I think "this year" is premature.

Once they have all the necessary assets and can fully blockade aircraft and shipping, they'll create a fake pretense and move in. Taiwan will fall in 30-60 days without a shot fired. Taiwan is 100% dependent on imports for food and energy. Most Taiwanese are incapable of any meaningful self-sufficiency and unwilling to suffer even brief episodes of food or energy shortage, so it will be a brief strategic blockade.

The US has no workable strategy to prevent this. The anti-ship weapons China has are already sufficient to keep US carriers at bay, because no existing countermeasures can guarantee survival and the consequences of losing a US capital ship, full of propulsion reactors, nuclear warheads, billions of dollars of aircraft and thousands of men, are too extreme to risk. Since the carriers can't be jeopardized, the warplanes on those carriers are effectively useless.

One of the few things Biden did that wasn't a harm to the US was subsidizing semiconductor foundries in North America. When (not if) Taiwan falls, it won't be the end of our world.

This is wrong.

China wants parity with the US. That can only happen when China asserts itself militarily and wins. The real value of Taiwan is not chip foundries. The real value of Taiwan is making Taiwan submit, and having this aggression accepted by the rest of the planet.

The long game is still a game, and even long games end with a score.

Taiwan is armed to the teeth, it would be an absolute disaster. I don't want to give away too many details, but consider basic things we had in ww2 like shore torpedo batteries and sea mines and consider their capabilities today. I seriously think there should be some sort of state visit where we can warn China that they would be absolutely fucked if they try this and the US wouldn't even need to lift a finger. Because it would be genuinely tragic if it did.

We have 2035 now. There is no need for a naval invasion. China closes the airspace over the island and that's it. No more access to Taiwan airports and seaports without Chinese permission. Blockade runners are in direct violation of international law.

This thread was so funny to read. Especially that one guy that is so confident in the 2027 number when China themselves don't really care about that number or year or whatever.

Taiwan is useless without TSMC, and TSMC is useless without the rest of the supply chain. Are the chinese retarded enough to kill the golden egg laying hen? With ambiguity over taiwan in place they can keep poaching talents silently from Taiwan and elsewhere.

Never going to happen. Communism will collapse in China like it does everywhere before they ever attempt something like that. Everything is falling apart there and the government is very weak.

They will work out a deal where Taiwan becomes a special economic zone like Hong Kong but with even more freedom and sovereignty and China will agree to it. If you understand this issue at all then you know that neither side has any interest in fighting some kind of bloody conflict.

America asking Europe to drop tariffs and pay what they were already supposed to for NATO had them throwing tantrums and threatening to jump ship. Russia invading Ukraine has led to Europe demanding that "Warmonger" America continue to finance the bloodshed. Yes, if China decides to invade a de facto sovereign country because Xi got his panties in a twist it would alienate the world. China isn't surviving off whatever they can bully Cambodia and Burma into purchasing and every single one of their neighbors INCLUDING Russia has a bone to pick with them over disputed territory. You got psyopped by fancy parades and faggots on X, the real world doesn't like China or care about being "based". You dumb fucking faggot with your smug terminally online meme answer

This is correct. The only people who want war are MIDC glowies, bankers, and dumb boomers who have no souls. I’m just waiting for the PRC to realize that their history of cultural revolution and dictatorship and oppression comes from communist jews.
