My problem is that the bill is just a symbolic act. It doesn't matter to the actual politicians or Trump what is really IN it, they're counting on most people not caring or knowing the specifics. They just want to get it done and signed so they can wave it around as their "big thing" they got done (like Biden's Inflation Reduction Act) and call it a win and then coast on that "win" for the rest of the term so they don't have to pass any other legislation and they can go into midterms holding that one bill they did vote on.

All the stuff cut out? Doesn't matter, swept under the rug and forgotten. They're going on vacation for a year after this bill is rammed through.

Essentially, the fact that Thune decided not to fire the Parliamentarian and Vance/Grassley decided not to overrule them means that all three are 100% on board with their actions because allowing the changes to be made locks the bill into its' final form, since it cannot be changed afterwards without, as I said, triggering a need for another process, debate, and vote on it, and if that happened anything added back in would just be removed, rinse and repeat. So by allowing the vote to proceed, the leaders condone and approve of the changes. Meaning, definitionally, that is now the GOP/MAGA platform.

Reconciliation is a process of "correcting" the budget, and it only requires a simple majority of 51 votes. Actual normal bills require a 2/3 majority, so 60 votes. The Senate (and House) are essentially evenly split down the middle, so unless a bill is hugely do-nothing-centrist, it's never going to pull voters from either side. GOP will never cross over on Democrat bills (actually that's not true, GOP would totally cuck for Dem bills), and Dems will NEVER vote on GOP bills.

So essentially, our current political situation in the country is that nothing can ever get done because the two sides hate each others' guts. Meaning functionally no legislation, ever. Both groups are just trying to do anything they can to delay or block the other side, instead of putting things on the floor for votes. And debate is pointless since most of Congress doesn't show up so they're not listening to anything being debated, so they're not there to be persuaded.
