I work adjacent to rice growers in California and Japan has been buying rice directly from farmers this year. Usually the growers sells to a coop or group and then to Japan. Something about a multi billion ton deficit in their reserves.

Most US rice ( except sushi rice from Cali ) is filled with arsenic , from decades of arsenic pesticides pre 1970. Heavy metals are almost impossible to remove from soil. I don’t blame Japan.
