The universe is infinite and eternal and has never no been. It did not come into being. It cannot end. Read Parmenides.
The true father of western philosophy was Parmenides, a mystic/shaman was part of a tradition known as incubation in which the practitioner would go into a cave and in complete stillness and silence commune with the divine. He then gave us one of the greatest philosophical/poetic works ever written: On Nature.
