AC politics
ill admit it, I was wrong
Europe was wrong
How the fuck do we bridge the AC unit gap? we absolutely need a marshall plan for ac units or something like that. We are going to need units for like 200 million households
please think about it america, while it would be a donation, it would strengthen our ties and it would also create jobs in the usa and we will be able to work harder and longer hours in the future which would incentivize trade.

Europe has not yet learned to be multi air conditioned. Americans will play a leading role in that transition, for which we will be resented for. But if Europe is not air conditioned, then Europe will not survive.

I don't use air conditioning. It's highly overrated and unnecessary. How do you think we got rich?
"This costs money so nah leave it"
"That is expensive, I don't want it"
"AC? THAT COSTS A FORTUNE! I won't be having that."

Plus, just as some asides, our windows aren't suitable for most types of aircon and there are problems with social housing permissions.
This didn't stop literally over half the country from buying €150-€600 portable AC 3 years ago, a little fact that people forgot.

I have an old vacation Cabin that has ancient air conditioning technology. I'm told that Albert Einstein contributed to the design. It uses no electricity, and there is no grid in the area where the cabin is located.
The cabin gets very cold in the winter, and very hot in the summer.
There is a wood burning furnace outside, adjacent to the woodshed/workshop,Ice house and outhouse. The cabin was retrofit with indoor plumbing later. A windmill like you see in old western films pumps water from the well. The furnace has a large capacity gasifier on top, and forced-air ducts wrap around the firebox, and go underground to the cabin. There is a boiler that heats a few radiators in the cabin and supplies hot water to the kitchen and bath. The blower is powered by a steam engine. The air conditioner doesn't use modern refrigerant it boils ammonia, which somehow magically make the ice house freezing cold. This, a long time ago supplied ice to the community but there's no call for that, so it was adapted and it manually switches over from the furnace to the ice house to air condition the cabin. Sounds crazy I know, and it's a bitch to get it going. If there's no wind, you have to hand crank the pump and fill the water tanks, stuff the fire box and get a fire going, grease, and oil all the mechanicals, flush out the boiler and fill it, open the bib at the cabin, wait for steam to build up, flush out the lines. make sure there are no critters in the air intake, kick over the steam engine...
the whole thin runs on wood, coal, or that biomass stuff. If I run into trouble, there are a couple old-timers down the road who know how it all works. Once upon a time there was a still there, but it's been gone for close to a hundred years.

Seriously, my wife is from Japan , married and moved in 2 and half years ago; called us Barbarian but adapted surprisingly well until summer hit... no AC almost made her go back to Japan, she just can't understand why it's not a thing and people just choose to suffer.

I argued that it helped with elderly culling which Japan direly needs.

It's not just AC, Europe is terminally retarded and incapable of thinking practically on issues. It's not just that we need AC, but we also need isolation (in France more than 25% are very poorly isolated), we need to stop CUTTING TREES for idiotic reasons, we need to start thinking about proper planning around managing the extreme temperatures.
We could learn a thing or two from countries that actually deal with that, but the truth is we're running on fumes, we simply don't have the money nor the brainpower to figure out solutions.
I'm glad I make a shitload of money, enjoy my AC and proper isolation.

Are europoors even legally allowed to buy ac window units?

If I were you guys I would not waste any money installing a ductless splits or central air. That would be extremely expensive.

Instead you can just buy a window unit for 150 bucks and keep your bedroom nice and cool. Probably the best option for places that only get really hot a few weeks per year. Also despite all of the rabble these units don’t actually use that much energy

How are your energy prices over there? They're brutal over here and AC skyrockets them. If you have a variable speed unit then those are the most efficient resulting a lower electric bill, but they cost more up front. Mine jumps about $500 in the summer; though we're talking 51.6C, so I'm on the extreme side of usage.

Insulation is really bad in the summer, trust me.
You absolutely do not want to have good insulation in the summer.
The heat will build up from the sun anyway and cook your house.
You need to be able to cool the walls.
Frankly homes need water-cooling like a computer does.
Just cold plates running through or along walls with water running by it all.

Also with regards to forests, there's not enough CO2 in the air, that's what's causing deforestation and desertification.
/pol/ is not quite ready for that pill though.

The problem for yuropoors isn't the availability of ACs or the installation headaches, it's the cost. Yuropoors pay $0.4-50 PER kWh. It's insane. Running a fan costs them an arm and a leg. I pay $0.09 per kWh in Texas. I can run my AC and keep my 2000sq ft home a cool 68F for less than it costs a yuropoor to run a fan in his tiny shithole apartment. AND we Americans make 2-3x as much money as yuropoors. The game was rigged from the start.

There's a reason the window units hang 60% out of the window. The hot side hangs outside, the cold side hangs inside.
When you just have a tube, the hot side is indoors with you, radiating some of that heat back into the room. Although much heat is dumped out of the tube, not nearly as much of it gets out as it should.
Opt for a window unit when possible.

It's not a flex as much as it could be warmer but it's not.
Just that I don't need to spend a penny for a electrical guzzler and spend it on something I enjoy instead. Seeing as I'm outside when the sun is up, my car so I can do a complete service on it and it costs me about what a AC would cost. Difference is that the car is good for a year and the AC is collecting dust 9 months of the year. Or I should say here it would as I know certain parts of America is warmer then others and it could be more cost effective to have an AC. Not dismissing that.
