Our position isn't even that extreme. While we might have sympathies with Palestine, a lot of the official government statements have been pretty measured, given how we're officially neutral. Can you follow the basic laws of war? Not starve or bomb children in the thousands? That's what's anti-semitic apparently. The official statements contain a lot of distancing language (basically condemning both sides in some form). In past years we were ignorable because the MSM never bothered with public opinion here on pretty much any topic. We're haven't been indoctrinated to be obedient to Israel or to keep quiet about topics on Palestine because it was never worth the effort to keep us quiet.

They're getting frank opinions and perspectives on what's happening in Gaza and Palestine and even their own countries over this issue. High tech isn't just an abstract thing that can be conjured just with education though. I know it might seem that way but it needs to be fully grounded in the world. Silicon Valley got the name because they actually made silicon chips. Software comes later. Even the internet itself, while we like to think of it as this abstract substrate on top, but there's a lot of hardware involved. It's become like electricity where it's infrastructure that not only grows but requires people to maintain.

In that sense you would say that yes, to maintain something like an internet/electricity grid we will need skilled people (who will plan, design and upgrade the networks) but you also need people to lay the cables and do the "grunt work".

Things like the physical infrastructure for high tech: factories, a surplus of electricity by which we can run data centres or supply new factories. We're missing that part. Our leaders have seemed to genuinely have bought into the green energy nonsense, which are a net negative in energy. We could do something like have some micro-nuclear reactors to help stabilise the grid and supply a surplus but we still don't even have basic things like a metro. Clowns in the dail are more interested in their punch and judy shows than actually running the country. Like you could see that a project like this might take 10 years, and politicians are so short sighted and petty they won't want to take the risk or take on with a project they can't get the glory for. Actual competent leaders would be able to just sit down (with opposition also) and say this is beyond petty politics, we need to stabilise and ensure energy security/independence of our grid.

From what I've seen, there are plenty of the more competent ones (who could actually get deals done) who have all quietly left government, because they can see the plane is on a slow descent with no pilot.
