Proposal to give Israel our B-2 stealth bombers
>In a move beyond the wildest parody on 4chan

A bipartisan pair of lawmakers has proposed authorizing President Donald Trumpto transfer B-2 stealth bombers and 30,000-pound "bunker buster" bombs to Israel if Iran is found to still be developing a nuclear weapon after last week’s strikes.

>The US has 19 B-2 bombers left in inventory and no operational B-21 raiders. Each B-2 cost about $4.17 billion adjusted for inflation.

Proposed by Reps. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., the Bunker Buster Act would allow Trump to "take actions to ensure Israel is prepared for all contingencies if Iran seeks to develop a nuclear weapon."

>The B-2 would allow Israel to strike any target in the world with an extremely high probability of success and a high degree of deniability. The B-2 was originally designed as a first strike weapon to hunt Soviet road mobile ICBMs.

I'm going to laugh my ass off if this passes and Israel just tells them "No"

The cost per flight hour is $165,000 and annual operating cost for the whole fleet is $1.2 Billion. They require special climate controlled hangers when not deployed to maintain their radar absorbing qualities. They require between 60-120 hours of maintainance per flight hour.

Nah i think it's only for dropping those megabombs not for stealth so it will cost much less

why not just have the US use them themselves if the need ever arises. if israel only has one use case for these things, they don't need them in their fleet.

What are we hoping to find? Ties to Israel?

Gottheimer has received over a million dollars fromAIPAC, Lawler has received more than $684,000 from AIPAC, both have made trips to Israel. It's public knowledge, the legal system isn't going to save you, the legal system is in on it.

It's all fly-by-wire, it would probably take your pilots a couple of weeks worth of proficiency training but they could fly it after that. The hardest part would be training the maintainers.

Trump gave them hundreds of MOABs that they could not deliver to targets without aircraft like this. It was always the plan to eventually hand over aircraft capable of dropping those bombs to Israel.

I very much doubt that, that's not the sort of thing you want to outsource unless your people are very incompetent. The IAF probably hires American contractors, but anyone who flies American jets, hires American contractors, it's part of the deal.

That's actually a pretty good idea and allows Israel to do things without (explicit) US involvement. If you're an isolationist, you should like it. Obviously not for the whole fleet, but like 4 of them.

We tried to sell them the F-117 in the 1980s, back when stealth was still basically space magic, even offered them their own variation. Thatcher probably thought Reagan was having a senior moment and said no.

You don't hand strategic weapons over to a "client state" without everyone seeing that for what it really is. Given Israels history of launching first strikes, I'd rather keep the nuclear capable intercontinental stealth bombers under our direct control. They are also in high demand and we don't have an operational replacement for them.
