The excuse or logic is most of the farmland is owned by a few wealthy individuals. Back then there was homesteading aka free land. So you could have children and the more children you had was more profit and output on the farm. Which equals more money and prosperity.

Today it is the inverse. Less farmland so having more kids just increases your costs without any profits.

You can't. The government owns the land. You actually need a park pass to even enter the land in the first place. It costs like 80 dollars and you can enter all the state parks for free after that. The only forest land left is these state parks. The rest of the land is farmland already developed or residential, commercial.
