Petition suggestion isn't to save new games. But for games that require an online element to play to have a way for players to get it to run if they scrap servers. Suggestion is also not for games coming out close after release. It is mostly pretty feasible what has been suggested.
Challenge might be that some large companies might not want to risk exposing their servers, potentially just API description of all web connections might be enough so there Is no need for reverse engineering, which is very much non trivial.
