when i was a kid red lobster was seen as a nice sit down restaurant. but everyone on the coasts always made fun of it.
being in the midwest, the only real fresh fish we get is flown in daily... and costs a fortune.
i'd say about 10-15 years ago is when it actually went down hill. i'm sure in large cities its probably been bad for decades though

Was it ever? I literally never saw anyone eat at Red Lobster besides niggers and very rarely white boomers obsessed with crab legs (which is how I got in, by tagging along).

It's been a ghetto nigger franchise for at least 35 years. Mostly just a pipeline to force-feed niggers as much shrimp as possible, while the boomers were obsessed with the crab leg deals. Their actual seafood was hot garbage. They can't do fish to save their nigger souls, their surf-and-turf was hot ass on a plate. And their seafood salad was just canned salmon tipped out onto a shitty caesar. They don't even offer real melted butter as a topping, it's the chemical imitation liquid butter that boomers guzzle and gives anyone with a working digestive system violent and explosive diarrhea.

Maybe it's a regional thing.
I grew up on the Gulf Coast so there were tons of local seafood places. Most were cheap hole in the wall places, but there were high end seafood restaurants.
The Red Lobster in the city closest to us was just never on that level. Honestly it wasn't even ghetto when I was young now that I think about it, it was where blacks would go for special occasions. But at least they'd dress up and be civilized and treat it like it was a special occasion.
You're right, it seems like in the last 15 or so years even that fell off and it turned "ghetto fabulous."
Maybe it was just the 08 recession destroying everything around it, I don't know.

Well if you live in the middle no where in a smallish town or city red lobster would have been seen as a more upscale place to go in chain restaurants terms. But in any decent sized city or in a rich country township it was just another boomer feeding hole, there's a chain here called "the keg", it's a nicer steakhouse, but it's a place where you take your grandma for her bday that's about it because there's much better stand alone options, that's what red lobster was, a place you took your uncle or whatever for bday dinner.
