It’s so weird how all this has developed. I was actually at the Fleet Center for the democratic national convention. I had the special pass that let you go anywhere. I was a guest of General Motors. I was right there in front area of the floor when Obama gave the speech thst launched his career. I was really wowed by the guy. I started immediately talking him up at that convention. And I honestly believed he was sincere at that time. I believed in all that stuff. But I had no idea what was to come. I still struggle to make sense of all that. Sure, I was rube for believing in a politician. There is a price to pay for naïveté. But that doesn’t explain what I experienced as a consequence of putting my powers of persuasion at his service. It was as if men like me — or even I — was to be the template for what they sought to dismantle and destroy in every way. Like a sinister exhibition to show that it doesn’t matter what you believe, or what you’ve done or anything else — it only matters what you are. And as much as I may want to believe the soaring and lofty rhetoric of Obama on the campaign trail, I had to learn the hard way that the coming age is a fierce competition, and your skin color is your jersey.
