Living Wage Fee now added to your bill
Dont be a cheapskate. Pay it.

>The living wage fee reflects a larger shift toward fairer pay for service workers. While it may raise the total cost of dining out, it supports a more sustainable and respectful pay model for restaurant employees.

>At Lula and Sadies, we believe in fair compensation for our hardworking team members. The “Living Wage Fee” is a flat 20% charge added to each bill, which allows us to pay all our staff members a living wage that exceeds the minimum wage requirements. We pay all staff members, no matter of position, a starting hourly wage that is considerably higher than the living wage. Because of this very intentional decision, our staff are able to take home their hourly wage + their portion of the “Living Wage Fee” collected at the time that they worked ensuring that all staff make above and beyond a living wage for Durham. The Living Wage in Durham County is $18.40 for a single adult with 0 dependents.

>As a family-owned and community-oriented establishment, we are deeply committed to the well-being of our employees. The “Living Wage Fee” enables us to support our staff members by providing them with wages that go beyond the standard minimum wage. This initiative is part of our effort to foster a positive work environment and ensure that our team members can thrive both personally and professionally.

>The “Living Wage Fee” is 20% of the total bill. The fee is transparently listed on our menus, website, and posted around the restaurant. Most importantly it is clearly stated on the bill, allowing our guests to see the exact amount that contributes to fair employee compensation.

Is the “Living Wage Fee” mandatory?

>Yes. The “Living Wage Fee'' is a contribution to support our commitment to providing a living wage to our employees. We greatly appreciate any support towards this initiative, as it directly impacts the livelihoods of our dedicated team members.

Really should be illegal.

Why are businesses allowed to separate the total cost that gets to the customer into twelve different fees? Customers should only see one, final fee with everything included.

A lot of these places are just trying the establish themselves as the "hip gay woke place." It's a risky strategy but in the right market (that isn't saturated) it can be easy money with a loyal clientele of affluent woke retards that will pay that fee.

This wouldn’t be necessary if republikkkans would just increase the minimum wage to a living wage. At least $31.25/hour is the minimum living wage these days. Even that is low.

Because then they'd have to show the higher price on the menu. As long as the fee is listed somewhere (almost assuredly in very small print on the bottom of the menu) the higher price technically isn't false advertising.

One thing I hate about the US is being nickel and dimed every time I buy something. Of course I want your employees to be paid enough to live on so they don't pit in my food, of course I want the restaurant or store to collect whatever the sales taxes so they stay in business even if I'm not always happy about the tax rate.
But I WOULD REALLY LIKE the advertised price to be price I pay, instead of having to do 5 different calculations between choosing what to buy and paying for it. If something says $10, I want to pay $10, not go on some bookkeeping fugue trying to figure out the eventual total of $15.73 or whatever it turns out to be. I absolutely hate having to do this for 95% of purchases when I would rather be thinking about how good the food is going to taste or how the clothes will fit or what I'll learn from the book.
tldr just show the price I actually pay wtf

I don't get it. Food is the same price in Australia yet they pay workers like 30 an hour for it and there's no tipping. Is rent that much expensive in the USA or something or do the owners genuinely make a much bigger profit than needed?

Real. If you need to pay for something $15.73 then why do they show 10 dollars on price tag? Why won't they include into price all the taxes and fees that you pay

the cost of the meal closely represents cost of ingredients and labor.
the cost of living extra charge would represent the cost of healthcare and housing for employees.
which isn't a bad idea and illustrates the cost of items vs cost of living.

Which is why the restaurant doesn’t do it
It helps to hide the cost you will pay in the end to trick you into spending money.
