>>509478729I’m quite literally the only person who has ever pointed out the subtext of the show. It’s not even apparent to the production staff.
The protagonists (is that too big of a word for /pol/?) are trying to bring about total civilizational collapse.
The show delves into the backstories of several of the Handmaid’s. These are women who are capable of reproduction while the rest of the northern hemisphere is not. Of those women, a total of one (1) is a mother before being captured. The rest of the women are all childless by choice.
They all have the same goal: escape to Canada and continue their child free lives. Again, the northern hemisphere has been ravaged by war and an unspecified ecological disaster has rendered most women infertile. The antagonists have figured out a way to reproduce.
By choosing to not have children during a time when most are unable to do so, they are choosing to end civilization.
The bigger question is why can’t anyone else see this? Why are all of the people watching cheering on the end of humanity?
