For the fact that the same book that put 4-5th century into power is the same book that dethroned them when people became better able actually read it. I would consider that an act of God and in line with the scriptures at Luke 10:21 and Matthew 23:14( and Luke 14:11 respectively).

Worth noting that "intellectuals" does not always refer to educated people, but rather anyone who are "wise in their own eyes".(Isaiah 5:21-23)

The Bible is filled with people who actually witnessed God's power and still acted faithlessly. That by itself is a testament of humanity's arrogance. Even non-biblical mythologies are filled with humans who openly defy gods.

So God simply telling humanity and confirming his existence is already a moot point. I would bet good money that the moment actual spirit life is confirmed, humans would try to find a way to kill or control them(I recommend watching Angel Engine as an example).

This is why the time of miracles came to an end(1 Corinthians 13:8-13) and belief based on faith would come to be considered more righteous than those who witnessed, with the KEY trait of a true Christian being LOVE.

It's foolish to dismiss the values, traditions, folklore, wisdom, and culture that a people have collected over thousands of years through different ages, geographical regions, and political climates, simply because it's old.
No, it's not self-explanitory. Each collected document has its own context, and that context has to be considered. Most of the people described in the various documents are flawed, but have redeeming characteristics. Some of the folklore was adopted from earlier folklore of the Assyrians and Babylonians.
War, rape, and enslavement have been around as long as there have been people, and people's history is complex. Yet, there are certain patterns that, for whatever reason, repeat themselves when people collectively behave in certain ways. It's just the way it is, and while there might be compelling, secular sociological explainations for these things, the fact remains that this is just the way things are—actions and consequences. You might as well just say it's God's law.
