this is because the american revolution was not a real revolution. britain drifted away and left the colonies on their own for a while and only came back to try and reassert themselves after the americans had set up a working society for themselves. then they tried to change it all around. In this way the american revolution was more an already established sovereign entity finally asserting as much.
