In 2007, that number was 81%. china electricity consumption skyrocketing as they are modernizing and they have to get energy from somewhere. china doesn't have an abundance of natural gas like the US does so it has to partly rely on coal for the time being. btw when the US leaked methane is counted, the US natural gas has the same effect as coal. the US numbers doesn't count the leaked methane.

While other countries are advancing the technology and the processes to build nuclear power plants efficiently, the USA is sitting on a corner with its dick in its hand playing with coal.

The USA is going to be left behind on this just like it was left behind on railroads, cars, steel production, etc. Trump could have done nuclear, but he didn't want to, the other party won't touch nuclear so the USA is going to become a straggler on nuclear energy and will have to play catch up.

I believe there will be a point when green energy fails. It's success is entirely reliant on battery technology breakthrough. When the reality of that breakthrough never comings sets in, we will look back on it as some stupid gimmick that we wasted trillions on that could have been invested elsewhere.

Coal isn't great, really nations should be going all in on natural gas. Combined powerplants that can provide both base load and peak load is the cheapest. An expensive alternative is Nuclear with natural gas peaker plants.
