Nothing but respect for them. But if your aim to try to set up something to compete with the ACLU, I don't think that'd work. In a lot of cases (especially free speech cases) the ACLU can actually be an ally. Dr. Peirce also had a good idea to create a religion (Cosomothesim), which could then give him some potential legal protection. But that didn't work. Scientology is a good counter-example: it attracted a lot of wealthy and well-connected people. That's probably why Scientology is still around today, and Cosmotheism is not. But is Scientology a threat to the power structure? I don't think so. It doesn't have any popular support and in the eyes of most it's a wacky cult. But a wacky cult that has not yet been WACO'd. And those WACO people didn't really have any weird views. They believed what millions of Christians believe. The difference is that they went off and prepared for it. Anyone that wants go the road of religious scholarship has my support. As long as it's not appalling and well-thought out, it can produce a fanatical core, and a fanatical core is all you really need to change history.
Currently, I'm studying the Cosa Nostra. I think there are some valuable lessons to be learned here. Once I have a more through understanding, I'll bring it here and workshop it with you all. Until then, sorry but I don't have any ideas. And again, your concerns are valid and I'm not discounting them or calling you a money-grubbing jew. It's a hard problem.
