i also never took foodstamps even though i qualified for them. i could have started taking them in april and would have received $200 a month. it took me 3 months to find a job. in that time the state would have provided me with $600 for food BUT they also would have REQUIRED me to search for work and to ACCEPT the first job offered. that would have limited my ability to choose the best of the many options that i had. that also would have taken away all my bargaining power that i had to ask for a higher wage and my ability to WAIT for something better to come along.
socialism is a disaster for both the working class and the economy. it gives all the power to incompetent, lazy, entitled government bureaucrats with make-work jobs who should have no power at all. they do nothing but suppress wages, force people into less-than-ideal positions, and waste people's time.
i think that we should get rid of foodstamps and replace them with vegetable stamps and there should no work requirement for people to get them. state departments of employment should focus on getting people into the best and highest paying jobs instead of just trying to force them to work. they should act more like capitalist temp agencies and less like commie gulags. participating and using their services should have no aspect of coercion or detrimental consequences.
i earned $600 in my new job in the first 4 days and i bought 6 eggs for $1.50 this morning.
