>>509691878>>509675782At a 10% grade, which is punishing for most cars and requires you to go down to 2nd or even 1st gear, the little girls would have to run 300ft, in the night, confused and dazed from the sudden wakeup call, with only the light from a few adults with flashlights / charged smartphones (we're talking about summer camp, so electronics MAY have been under lock a d key)
A 4% grade is more realistic, meaning sleepy, disoriented 12-year-old girls would have to run 1/3 of a mile JUST to not get immediately swept away in the first wave, but would probably have to go a full mile UPHILL in 30 minutes max (with account for mustering delays).
Find a gentle hill in your vicinity and run up it if you can. If you can't, walk and and track your time to 1 mile travelled (hint: you won't do 1 mile uphill in 30 minutes at a walking pace, you need at least a forced march / light jog pace to make it)
Now realize girls half your height and one third your age DON'T have the stamina to run more than 300m ON FLAT GROUND.
A flash flood alarm would not have saved them, they shouldn't have been allowed to go camping in a known flood area in flood season. It wasn't a family thing, it was done by an official camping organization โ this isn't a "muh federal agencies" thing, LOCAL authorities should never have permitted that camp to be set up. Someone in local administration was slacking off on the job and their best bet on dodging an 80-body manslaughter charge, aggravated for involving some 20 minors, is to blame the feds. Someone down there should hang
