Are you taking a great American (or Canadian, or Australian) road trip this summer, /pol/? The freedom of open road is part of your national heritage, and you have a duty to keep that heritage alive, for yourself and your kids.

Unfortunately, family road-trip culture has been declining somewhat in many regions. Why is this, and how can it be reversed?

Took our baby out for an hour then drove back. He was fine until we drove back because it was his nap time and cried 100% of the ride back home (15-20 minutes)

No, because my car is a heap of shit and I can't afford a better one I would trust to run for more than an hour

reversed?
Fuck no!
People are such dogshit drivers that the getting on the roads and taking up space culture needs to die.
I propose:
Stripping all individuality from cars.
It's now just a tool to get you from point A to B.
No more shiny rims, jacked up monster trucks, etc.
Placing progressively more difficult efficiency demands on car manufacturers.
New cars MUST be lighter and more efficient than last years model.
Not limited to gas mileage but drag coefficients as well.
Cars are governed not only with speed limit but acceleration as well
Yes, this will mean all cars will eventually look the same but fuck your individuality.
You are not your car.
Driver's licenses now cost $10k and you can lose your license for lots of reasons.
Every car has a SAMSARA type system.
Following too close? Warning then a fine for continued behavior.
No seatbelt? Warning then a fine for continued behavior.
Run a stop sign or redlight? Warning then a fine for continued behavior.
Using a cellphone? Warning then a fine for continued behavior.
Music too loud? Warning then a fine for continued behavior.
Drifting lanes? Warning then a fine for continued behavior.

Only people who are the problem will disagree

my divorce is underway, I am packing my life up into the back of a van, saving all my leave for december (summer here) and will take to the roads and live in that van until the engine shits out. What ever I save in that time goes to a house and if I cannot buy a house with it, then to hell with it all.

taking to the roads and saving money are antithetical. it seems the whole point of owning a house is to save money/ build wealth

It's more likely than you think.
