I like cats in general, more of a dog guy, but cat lovers please help me understand this. So my friend is all about them, has like four cats, and he openly admitted to me one day that he actually likes the fact that his cat is indifferent to him/ungrateful. To me this just sounds like he has some kind of brain worms. How can that be preferable to a dog that's loyal, clearly loves you, and will defend you? Cats are cute, and some are more affectionate than others, but that does seem to be their default state. My aunt has a small beagle/yorkshire terrier mix that has never, in 8 years of it being alive, bitten or scratched me even on accident. He is quite literally an angel. Isn't that just an objectively superior animal to one that can just attack you out of nowhere and doesn't give a fuck about you?

I wouldn't want a cat that hated me but if you're a busy adult you feel less bad about giving them only 10 minutes of your day or leaving them for a couple days on vacation. My cat spends 90% of it's day doing it's own thing and then gets aggressively affectionate for about an hour.

This is also just not true. Cats don't carry toxoplasmosis in their saliva. Cats can transmit it to other humans through their feces, but the virus isn't "killed" by its saliva, it just cant sustain itself there, same as if it's on its fur.
