You can't just write one text book that is no longer in copyright and expect the publishers to be able to put an obscene amount food on the silverware on each of the massive oak tables in one of their enormous luxury yachts.
You need to write a new book that is just good enough that it teaches everything, but not good enough that it needs to be replaced in two years with the next, newer, and better edition (which needs to be replaced in one year).
Did you even think of the poor publishers who are still not nearly rich enough yet? They're not done selling you the same thing again that you already had before, in the newly printed 17th edition (on special see-through paper this time!).
