So I had a short layover in Istanbul and I went out to explore the market in beyoglu.

I went to try the Turkish ice cream. And the guy put the cone in my cleavage(that too not with the stick but with his hand). And I have video proof of it.

I froze. I couldn’t react, I felt helpless, I didn’t say anything. I was weirdly smiling to mask my ‘unable to perceive’ shaken emotions. After leaving that place, it hit me. I was shaken by what just happened.

I felt disgusted, humiliated, angry, sad and more angry at myself for not standing up. I usually have a freeze response in such situations.

It was a short layover so I had to leave the next morning. I’m not in Istanbul currently. My mind is killing me for not doing anything about it and letting him get away with this.

I would do anything to get him to face some kind of consequence for the crime he has committed. Otherwise this regret of not respecting myself by not doing anything will kill me.

I am going to try emailing the tourism police, get this on social media. Not sure if I can visit there so frequently for legal processes.

My questions are-

Is it possible for this man to face punishment without me physically having to go there and file a complaint?

Will the police take it seriously?

Please suggest some tourist pages on social media that I can ask to post the video on to raise awareness.

How hectic will the legal procedures be?

Any other advice is welcome

Don’t get me wrong, it was actually a beautiful country, and of course I didn’t experience that behavior everywhere. But I did get stares here and there, not too different than what I experienced in Greece and especially Italy. But I was actually assaulted similar to this in Turkey. It’s just hard to prove because physical contact is part of the gimmick, and it happens so fast. But there should definitely be areas of the body off limits. Sexual harassment as a whole is overblown, especially in the first world. You're not in danger, you're not being harmed. I agree with your post, but I've seen videos where the guy will then proceed to absolutely wreck the woman, and all of the comments well be talking about she slapped him first, and how him demolishing her is about equal rights (and lefts).
